The hardest thing to understand when you’re young is that it’s only one year, and while a job at an investment bank might look in the short term like it’s the most important thing in the world, ultimately the Fellowship–for me at least–was a much better option.  It completely changed my perspective on the world and business.   

The fellowship was very important for my career development, especially since it came at the earlier stages of my career.  The placement in TNK-BP established my career in the energy business and I made lifelong friends and business contacts which I use to this day. It led to all my subsequent employment because it gave me a foothold in the energy industry.  TNK-BP was a first class, highly professional and well-run organization with first class talent, where I learned.  My direct reporting line was the best of the best in the industry. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.  

On a personal level I had a really good time with everyone in the AFP and in Moscow, and we all got along very well. It’s a great program to expand your Russian skills, knowledge of Russia and Russian business, and for general personal development. Russia is a fantastic country to explore; my only regret is that I didn’t travel more!
